Wycombe Film Studios
It is well publicised that the shortage of film studios is a major issue within the UK with an estimated requirement of 6 million sq ft of new studio space required between 2022 and 2026.
Our Solutions
Having regard to the fast-paced nature of the creative industry sector against the challenges of the English planning system to accommodate it, we carried out initial engagement with the Council to explain our vision for the site and its economic potential. In order to address known short-term requirements for a specific production, early and proactive discussions with Officers at Buckinghamshire Council, as well as engagement with Local Ward Members and the nearby residents took place as part of a temporary application submitted in September 2021 for two sound stages and four workshops for a period of 5 years . Following extensive collaboration with the Council, the planning application received unanimous support at Planning Committee.
A Planning Performance Agreement was then signed with Buckinghamshire Council to support the preparation of a full planning application for the creation of permanent eight stage film studio designed for the world’s top film and high end TV production companies.
The Outcome
We co-ordinated and led a multi-disciplinary team associated with the permanent planning application for the new film studios. Economic studios prepared by Nexus in support of the proposals identified that it will support around 750 full-time jobs and 450 indirect jobs in the supply chain. Furthermore, it will generate approximately £305m GVA and will support the creation of an Academy of Creative and Technical Arts to support local job creation and training. The planning application received unanimous support at Planning Committee and will be built out soon.
