TRANSFORM LEATHERHEAD, SURREY

We were commissioned by Mole Valley District Council and tasked with creating an exciting blueprint for the future of Leatherhead Town Centre. Located in the heart of Surrey, Leatherhead is advantaged by its close proximity to London and the M25. However, the town centre required a new direction and strategy for its renewal.

Our Solutions

Under the banner of ‘Transform Leatherhead’, the project involved working closely with Mole Valley District Council to create a community-led vision for the redevelopment of the town centre. Our team developed an extensive engagement strategy, drawing upon our knowledge and experience of delivering successful town centre masterplans.

As part of the public consultation, we organised a series of events, workshops and walkabouts resulting in an estimated 3,000 face-to-face engagements. A project website was created and branded postcards were distributed to approximately 25,000 households.

The Outcome

Transform Leatherhead sets out the town’s vision, objectives, potential development opportunities and accessibility strategy with accompanying delivery plan. The Masterplan outlines the overarching spatial strategy and identifies key opportunity sites. Most importantly, Transform Leatherhead successfully sets out the steps to regenerating the town centre through better facilities, transport connections and retail and community opportunities.

As recommended in the masterplan, a £1m public realm scheme has been undertaken in town centre, the shopping centre is progressing a programme of improvements and a planning application for one of the key sites identified has been approved.
