LAND AT COURTWICK, LITTLEHAMPTON

We were appointed by Gleeson Developments Limited to promote a 33.6-hectare greenfield site to the north of Littlehampton. The Site had originally been promoted for development through the Core Strategy process in 2009, but had been subject to indefinite delay since December of that year.

Our Solutions

In order to counter the problems experienced in progressing the development of the Site, we prepared a strategic planning application to ensure the timely delivery of the proposed development scheme. The application provided substantial housing and employment opportunities for the residents of Littlehampton, along with a significant contribution towards the regeneration objectives identified by Arun District Council.

We conducted a number of consultation events and public exhibitions to gather the views of local stakeholders and better inform the planning process.

The Outcome

In collaboration with a multi-disciplinary consultant team, we developed an illustrative Masterplan and outline application for 600 homes and employment space. This was submitted alongside an Environmental Impact Assessment which was subsequently approved by the District Council.

A detailed viability case on the level of affordable housing contribution that the scheme could accommodate was presented to ensure it was deliverable.

Planning permission was secured for a development that will significantly improve the quality and appearance the city centre, whilst making a meaningful contribution to Birmingham’s housing need.
