In recognition of the work we do, the way that we approach it and, importantly, our commitment to staff development, Nexus Planning was the RTPI Planning Consultancy of the Year in 2020 (and a Finalist in 2022), and the North West RTPI Planning Consultancy of the Year in 2021. We strongly encourage candidates of all different backgrounds and identities to apply for opportunities with us. Each new appointment is an opportunity for us to bring in a different perspective and we are committed to building an inclusive, supportive place for you to do the best and most rewarding work of your career. We offer competitive market salaries, performance-related discretionary bonuses, enhanced maternity and paternity pay provisions, company pension contributions and life insurance. However, we know that modern professionals look for a more holistic work offer and at Nexus Planning we additionally offer the following:

Flexibility

We have adopted hybrid working arrangements across our teams, working 2 / 3 days a week in our office hub locations to maximise collaboration opportunities and staff development.

We additionally operate daily ‘core hours’ to provide further flexibility at the beginning and end of the traditional working day.

Health and Wellbeing

Leave – leave entitlements start at 27.5 days (in addition to Bank Holidays), and we actively seek to ensure that team members take regular breaks throughout the year.

Healthcare – all team members have the opportunity to benefit from a company-paid plan that provides a range of health and wellbeing benefits including optical, dental and physiotherapy services, as well as access to a private GP service. At Associate level and above, team members additionally benefit from private healthcare insurance.

Cycle to Work – all team members have the opportunity to purchase a bike / electric bike via a salary sacrifice scheme that generally results in savings of between 25% and 40%.

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) – our EAP is available to all team members to help them deal with any personal problems that may be affecting their performance at work, or their wellbeing more generally.

We have at least one Mental Health First Aider in each of our office hub locations, each trained and with an interest in mental health and, importantly, providing a first and confidential port of call for team members experiencing any issues.

Social Value

Through our partnerships with local charities we offer both our time, and make financial contributions to, these excellent causes. Our team members have in recent months assisted at foodbanks, dug allotments that provide fresh food for those who can’t afford it, carried out an annual beach clean and provided pro-bono planning advice.

Professional Development

We arrange and pay for technical and skills-based training for team members at all levels, which link into individual Personal Development Plans.

We mentor those seeking membership of the RPTI status and have an RTPI APC Assessor in the company that can provide specific guidance.

We pay all RTPI professional subscription costs.

The Nexus Community

We encourage and facilitate regular liaison and in-person meetings between our team members in different geographical locations, to boost collaboration, support and peer learning. We also get all team members across the company together regularly to cement our ‘one company ethos’.

Succession Planning / Share Ownership

Providing career opportunities for all of our team members is central to our ethos. A number of our current Directors started with the company at Senior Planner level. In 2021 we also launched a five-year paid apprenticeship scheme in collaboration with the RTPI and London Southbank University.

Share-ownership – subject to availability, team members above Senior Planner level have the opportunity to buy shares in our company – providing a direct interest in the success of the business. We want our team members to see work with us as a career rather than a job.

If you would like to join our team, please do get in touch.

Graduates

We recognise the importance that graduates play in supporting and expanding our business. In order to provide graduates with the best start, we ensure that they have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, across multiple development sectors and specialisms which can include residential and strategic land, regeneration, retail and town centre development and health and education projects. This variety ensures that the experience gained is as diverse as possible.

We provide the support needed to achieve the RTPI APC through allocating a specific ‘mentor’ to each graduate to assist them through the process, and we arrange a variety of CPD events that graduates can benefit from and contribute to. We also have strong links with the RTPI North West Regional Activity Committee, the RTPI North West Young Planners and the Manchester Young Professionals, who all organise a wide range of events that our team regularly attend, as well as the Surrey Young Planners which provides an opportunity to expand professional networks and we proactively engage with the wide range of CPD and social events organised by the RTPI and New London Architecture in central London. All of our graduates have successfully achieved RTPI status when they have applied.

Work must be professionally rewarding but it must also be an enjoyable environment generally. We actively encourage our staff to be involved in a range of social and charity events. We hold an annual European symposium, to which all of our staff are invited, at which business objectives and successes are shared, and all staff are able to mix socially – enhancing the sense of community and familiarity with the whole business, while providing an opportunity to explore planning / design issues in different European cities.
