We were appointed by Gleeson Developments to prepare, submit and undertake an appeal for a development of 97 new homes located on London Road in Hassocks, Sussex. The development was originally refused outline planning permission on highways and air quality grounds.
Working collaboratively with air quality and highways consultants, we successfully navigated the highly technical issues to identify a mitigation strategy to support our case at appeal.
Following the submission of our mitigation strategy, Mid Sussex District Council subsequently agreed to our proposals, leading to a withdrawal of the original reasons for refusal. This ensured that the appeal proceeded to the Inquiry stage with only third parties in opposition.
Although the appeal was dismissed at the Inquiry stage, our detailed planning evidence was vital in supporting a legal challenge against the Inspector’s decision and lead to it being quashed by the High Court. Following re-determination, planning permission has now been granted.
