Working with Legal & General Assurance (Pensions Management) Ltd, we assisted with a planning application for alterations including an extension to the main entrance of Jackson Square Shopping Centre in Bishops Stortford. Located within the Bishops Stortford Conservation Area, a careful planning strategy and sensitive design was paramount to the success of this project.
The proximity of the development to the adjacent residential units was the major challenge for this application. As such, it was our responsibility to demonstrate that the provision of an additional floor above the existing shopping centre was not 'over bearing'. As a result, we secured comprehensive sunlight reports to support the planning submission. The project also benefitted from a close working relationship established with officers at East Hertfordshire District Council.
The application was submitted to the District Council and subsequently approved. Whilst responding to the Conservation Area and becoming a positive focal point, it is envisaged that the increase in retail floorspace and extended entrance will increase trade and footfall whilst improving the local street scene and public realm.
