Following the submission of a planning application in 2015, we were appointed by Croudace Homes to progress an appeal for up to 265 dwellings, significant flood defence measures and substantial areas of public open space in Henwick Park, West Berkshire. A significant proportion of the submission formed part of a wider surface water management plan to be implemented following extreme flooding at Thatcham in 2007.
We simultaneously promoted the Site through the Local Plan process, seeking an allocation within an emerging Site Allocations Document. We also acted as the planning agent and lead consultant on a revised planning application.
We prepared and presented evidence on planning and Objectively Assessed Housing Need at the Public Inquiry. The appeal was allowed and outline planning permission granted for 265 dwellings as well as public open space including allotments, community orchard, sports pitch and pavilion, ecology meadow, parkland; trim trail and children’s play areas; provision of a GP surgery and flood alleviation ponds as part of the wider Thatcham Surface Water Management Plan.
