We were appointed by English Braids to prepare and submit a planning application for the conversion of the 40,000 sqft Britannia Mill in Mossley into a mixed-use development. Situated close to Mossley train station, the scheme consisted of 62 apartments and 8,000 sqft of high street retail units.
The project raised issues relating to out-of-centre retail, loss of employment land and local objections. As a result, we proactively engaged with the local community and other local stakeholders to ensure that the scheme was favourably received. In addition, we also prepared a Retail Assessment and Employment Land Assessment to further demonstrate the benefits of the proposed development.
The scheme was unanimously approved by the planning committee at Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. We are now in the process of concluding an associated Section 106 agreement.
