We led on the management and preparation of a hybrid planning application and Environmental Impact Assessment for Baron’s Quay in Northwich, Cheshire. Totalling an investment of around £80m, the proposed development consisted of a 40,000 sqm retail-led, mixed-use scheme.
This challenging appointment represented the largest redevelopment of the town centre for a generation. To deliver the scheme, an outline application was submitted for the entire Site with a detailed application to enable the Phase 1 delivery of the anchor stores and Conservation Area element of the existing town centre. A robust Environmental Impact Assessment was also undertaken, which included determining the socio-economic effects of the town centre expansion. We prepared and implemented a comprehensive public and stakeholder engagement strategy for this highly significant scheme.
Planning permission and Conservation Area consent was granted in March 2013 with a unanimous vote in favour at the Strategic Planning Committee. The Phase 1 anchor stores were completed in 2016 and a subsequent Phase 2 planning application is currently being prepared.
