OLD DEER PARK
We have worked closely with the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames to prepare a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for Old Deer Park, Richmond.
As well as being a designated Conservation Area, Old Deer Park is included as Grade I in Historic England’s Register of Historic Parks and Gardens and a large proportion of it forms part of the buffer zone designated to protect the integrity of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew as a World Heritage Site. It is home to a number of sports clubs and community groups as well as being an important area for biodiversity.
The development of a specific SPD for the Old Deer Park will help guide future developments and environmental improvements to ensure that they are sensitive to its historic attributes whilst supporting the important recreational, sporting, and community activities within it.
Identifying opportunities for improvements, whilst remaining sensitive to the parks history and respecting the important recreational activities was key to a successful process, as was close working with stakeholders including the community throughout the process.
The SPD has now been adopted by the Council and will be taken in to account when considering future planning applications. The SPD sets out how any future development should support important sport and community activities and identifies opportunities for enhancements, reflecting its strong and fascinating history.
